Olaf Witkowski is a Scientist in AI and Artificial Life. His laboratory works towards a better understanding of the universal underlying principles guiding living systems and all intelligent processes, both natural and artificial. He is also interested in the origins and future of intelligence, the emergence of evolvable communication, collective cognition, and the science of awareness. He is an ALife activist, a Go/baduk evangelist, exploring interactions between philosophy, science, and art. He co-founded Cross Labs in Tokyo, and YHouse in New York, research institutes focused on sciences of intelligence and awareness. He is also a lecturer at the University of Tokyo, and a research scientist at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Artificial Life since 2019. He received his PhD from the University of Tokyo in 2015. He also previously was also a co-founder at Commentag LLC, and a Machine Learning/NLP expert at MTI Ltd.
